Ring Sizing Guide
RING SIZE GUIDE
Find Your Perfect Fit
WHY PROPER SIZING MATTERS
A properly fitted ring should: ✓ Slide on with slight resistance
✓ Fit snugly over your knuckle
✓ Not spin excessively on your finger
✓ Come off with gentle effort (not easily, not impossibly)
Too loose: Risk of loss, ring spinning, discomfort
Too tight: Difficult to remove, restricted circulation, discomfort
METHOD 1: MEASURE AT HOME (STRING METHOD)
What You'll Need:
- String, dental floss, or thin strip of paper
- Ruler or tape measure
- Pen or marker
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut a piece of string about 6 inches long
Step 2: Wrap the string around the base of your finger (where you'll wear the ring)
- Wrap snugly but not too tight
- The string should slide over your knuckle comfortably
Step 3: Mark where the string overlaps with a pen
Step 4: Measure the string length from the end to your mark in millimeters
Step 5: Use the chart below to find your size
Conversion Chart:
| Inside Circumference (mm) | US Size | UK Size |
|---|---|---|
| 44.2mm | 3 | F |
| 46.8mm | 4 | H |
| 49.3mm | 5 | J½ |
| 51.9mm | 6 | L½ |
| 54.4mm | 7 | N½ |
| 57.0mm | 8 | P½ |
| 59.5mm | 9 | R½ |
| 62.1mm | 10 | T½ |
| 64.6mm | 11 | V½ |
| 67.2mm | 12 | Y |
| 69.7mm | 13 | Z+1 |
Can't find your exact measurement? Round UP to the nearest size. It's easier to size down than up.
METHOD 2: USE AN EXISTING RING
What You'll Need:
- A ring that fits the same finger
- Ruler with millimeter markings
Instructions:
Step 1: Find a ring you already own that fits the finger you want to wear your new ring on
Step 2: Measure the inside diameter of the ring in millimeters
- Place the ring on a flat surface
- Measure straight across the inside from edge to edge
- Measure in millimeters for accuracy
Step 3: Use this chart to find your size:
| Inside Diameter (mm) | US Size |
|---|---|
| 14.1mm | 3 |
| 14.9mm | 4 |
| 15.7mm | 5 |
| 16.5mm | 6 |
| 17.3mm | 7 |
| 18.1mm | 8 |
| 19.0mm | 9 |
| 19.8mm | 10 |
| 20.6mm | 11 |
| 21.4mm | 12 |
| 22.2mm | 13 |
METHOD 3: VISIT A JEWELER (MOST ACCURATE)
Your local jewelry store can measure your finger with a professional ring sizer. This is the most accurate method and takes just a few minutes.
Bring this information when you visit:
- Which finger you'll wear the ring on (they may be different sizes!)
- Whether the ring will be a wide band (6mm+) or thin band (2-3mm)
Pro tip: Many jewelers offer this service for free, even if you're not purchasing from them.
IMPORTANT SIZING CONSIDERATIONS
1. Knuckle Size
If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger:
- The ring must fit over your knuckle to get on
- But it should fit snugly at the base to prevent spinning
- Consider sizing up and using sizing beads (we can add these during resizing)
Test: If you measure 6.5 at the base but 7.5 at the knuckle, order size 7 or 7.5.
2. Wide Bands Need Larger Sizes
Rings wider than 6mm fit more snugly than thin bands.
General Rule:
- Thin bands (2-3mm): Order your true size
- Medium bands (4-5mm): Consider sizing up ½ size
- Wide bands (6mm+): Size up ½ to 1 full size
Bravais Bombe Rings: Our signature bombe rings are typically 5-8mm wide. We recommend sizing up ½ size for comfort.
3. Temperature & Time of Day
Your fingers swell and shrink throughout the day due to:
- Temperature (fingers swell in heat, shrink in cold)
- Time of day (often larger in the evening)
- Hydration levels
- Physical activity
- Sodium intake
Best time to measure: Late afternoon/early evening in moderate temperature when you're well-hydrated.
Avoid measuring:
- First thing in the morning (fingers are smaller)
- During extreme heat or cold
- After intense exercise
- When very dehydrated
4. Dominant Hand Considerations
Your dominant hand fingers are often slightly larger due to increased use.
If you're right-handed:
- Right hand fingers may be ½ size larger than left hand
For engagement/wedding rings:
- Most people wear on left ring finger (regardless of dominance)
- Make sure to measure the SPECIFIC finger you'll wear it on
5. Finger-Specific Sizing
Each finger may be a different size! Common patterns:
- Index finger: Often ½-1 size larger
- Middle finger: Typically largest
- Ring finger: Standard reference
- Pinky finger: Often 2-3 sizes smaller
Always measure the specific finger where you'll wear the ring.

Ring Sizing Insurance:
Recommended! Purchase one-time ring sizing insurance at checkout.
What it includes: ✓ One complimentary resize anytime during the life of the ring
✓ Cleaning and inspection included with resize
✓ You only pay return shipping to us
Cost: $25-50 (depending on ring complexity)
Why we recommend it:
- Fingers change size over time (weight changes, pregnancy, aging)
- You might prefer a different fit after wearing it
- Temperature variations affect fit
- Peace of mind for a one-time fee
Resizing After Purchase (Without Insurance):
Cost: $75-150 depending on design complexity
Limitations:
- Rings can typically be sized +/- 2 sizes maximum
- Beyond 2 sizes may compromise the design
- You pay return shipping both ways
- Turnaround time: 2-3 weeks
Cannot resize if:
- Another jeweler has already resized or repaired the ring
- Ring has been damaged or worn down
- Design has features that prevent resizing (full pavé, eternity band, etc.)
BETWEEN SIZES? HERE'S WHAT TO DO
If You Measure Exactly Between Two Sizes:
For thin bands (2-4mm):
- Order the smaller size (they fit looser)
For wide bands (6mm+) or bombe rings:
- Order the larger size (they fit tighter)
For knuckle considerations:
- Order the larger size (must fit over knuckle)
When in doubt: Order the larger size. It's easier and less expensive to size down than up.
SIZING FOR GIFTS
Option 1: Sneaky Measuring
Borrow a ring they already wear on the correct finger and:
- Trace the inside circle on paper
- Measure the inside diameter
- Use our size chart
Pro tip: Make sure it's from the CORRECT finger (ring finger if it's an engagement ring).
Option 2: Enlist Help
Ask their:
- Best friend
- Sibling
- Parent
- Anyone who might know their ring size
Option 3: Adjustable Sizing
Some of our designs can be made with adjustable shanks (ask when commissioning a custom piece).
Option 4: Propose with a Placeholder
Order one size larger than you think, propose with it, then:
- Use our complimentary resizing service (if you purchased sizing insurance)
- Or resize for standard fee
Why size up? A too-large ring can be worn temporarily on a different finger until resized. A too-small ring cannot be worn at all.
PRINTABLE RING SIZER (OPTIONAL)
If you want to create a printable ring sizer, this section would include a downloadable PDF with actual-size circles for each ring size that people can print and cut out.
How to use:
- Print at 100% scale (no scaling/fitting to page)
- Cut out the size circles
- Try each size on your finger
- Choose the one that fits snugly but comfortably

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Can all rings be resized?
A: Most can be resized +/- 2 sizes. Eternity bands, full pavé, and certain carved designs cannot be resized.
Q: How long does resizing take?
A: 2-3 weeks once we receive your ring.
Q: Will resizing damage my ring?
A: No. Professional resizing is a standard jewelry service. However, only Bravais should resize Bravais pieces (warranty protection).
Q: My fingers are different sizes in summer vs. winter. What size should I order?
A: Order for your average size. If you live in a hot climate, size for summer. If cold climate, size for winter comfort.
Q: I'm between sizes. Which should I choose?
A: For thin bands: smaller size. For wide bands/bombe rings: larger size. When in doubt: larger size.
Q: Can I resize a ring myself?
A: No. DIY resizing will damage the ring and void all warranties. Always use a professional jeweler (preferably us!).
Q: Do you offer ring sizing insurance for custom orders?
A: Yes! It's included in the custom order process.
