Description: Two gems. Two completely different mechanisms of color production. One pendant.
This 0.64ct Australian opal demonstrates full-spectrum rolling flash — green and blue domains dominating the face, with a red flash present in the lower portion of the stone. Red is the rarest play-of-color in opal — it requires the largest silica sphere diameter of any visible wavelength to produce and is therefore less common than green or blue flash.
The 0.08ct blue topaz accent crystallizes in the orthorhombic system — highly ordered, structurally precise, its color produced by irradiation (standard and permanent for blue topaz) rather than structural diffraction. Where the opal is amorphous and produces color through nanoscale geometry, the topaz is crystalline and produces color through atomic-level electron interactions. Both are beautiful. Neither is the same.
Paired with a sterling push clasp and 18" Argentium Cable or Sterling Bead chain.
