Montana sapphire is almost never purple. This one is — and it has never been heated.

Corundum's color depends entirely on which trace elements substitute into the aluminum oxide lattice. The same mineral that produces Montana's signature teal-blue when iron and titanium dominate produces a purple like this when vanadium and chromium enter the picture instead. Same hexagonal crystal structure. A completely different result, and a far rarer one from this deposit.

This stone has visible inclusions — not hidden, not minimized. They are part of what this stone is: a natural, unheated crystal from the Missouri River watershed with the internal character that comes from forming without any laboratory intervention. The square cut and the architectural proportions keep the focus on color and form. 5.77mm, structured, one of one.
