Inside an opal, silica spheres arrange into a repeating grid. When the sphere diameter is close to the wavelength of visible light, the grid diffracts white light into spectral components — reflecting specific colors back at specific angles. The same principle as a soap bubble, stable in silica for millions of years. These are Australian Lightning Ridge crystal opals: transparent body, color firing from within.
Matched pair, 4mm rounds, bezel-set in a press-fit flat back. The bezel wall protects the opal's perimeter — opal is softer than most gemstones and the bezel is the correct setting. One pair only.
Care: Remove before swimming, bathing, harsh chemicals. Avoid rapid temperature changes. Store consistently cool.
