A rose cut has a flat base and a domed top. It was designed for candlelight. It still works.
The rose cut predates the brilliant by centuries. Where a brilliant cut maximizes light dispersion through a pointed base, a rose cut reflects light back through its dome — a softer, more intimate kind of brightness. In a salt-and-pepper diamond, that dome also reveals the inclusion landscape: the black carbon crystals and grey feathers suspended inside the stone that make each one unrepeatable.
The flat base of a rose cut is architecturally matched to a flat back stud. The stone sits low and flush, the dome faces outward, and the pear silhouette reads as a teardrop on the ear. Point down is the classic orientation. Point up is architectural. Note your preference at checkout.
