Ruby is corundum — aluminum oxide, Al₂O₃ — colored red by Cr³⁺ ions substituting for Al³⁺ in the crystal lattice. What makes this 2.75ct Mozambique stone exceptional is not just its color but its internal biography, readable under magnification with extraordinary saturation in different lighting.

The hexagonal crystal growth structure that names this piece — and names this brand — is visible throughout the stone: parallel growth striae following the basal plane perpendicular to corundum's c-axis, recording the step-by-step advancement of the crystal face during growth. Each parallel line is one growth episode — one increment of the hexagonal crystal advancing outward from its center, layer by layer, over geological time. You are seeing the actual geometry of how this crystal grew — one of the 14 Bravais lattice types that give this brand its name.

Fingerprint inclusions are visible in the stone — partially healed fractures with fluid inclusions that create lacy, fingerprint-like patterns characteristic of natural unheated Mozambique ruby. The ruby exhibits strong red photoluminescence under UV excitation — Cr³⁺ ions re-emitting at ~694nm, causing the stone to glow with an intensity that can exceed its reflected color. Strong UV fluorescence documented.
