Description: This stone has a name.
Misty was cut by gem artist Michelle Mai in her proprietary "Portbright" round — a faceting design engineered to maximize optical complexity in stones with heavy silk inclusions. The sapphire originated from the El Dorado Bar alluvial deposit in Montana and was acquired directly from Michelle Mai as a finished named stone for this setting.
Under magnification the Portbright cut reveals what it was designed to produce: a soft, rolling internal luminosity where dense silk inclusions — fine rutile needles oriented along the crystallographic c-axis — scatter light internally before it exits the crown facets. In zones of lower silk density the stone's underlying body color reads through as a warmer, yellower tone, creating a layered optical effect visible simultaneously through the table facet. This is not a defect. It is the optical signature of a stone cut to express its inclusions rather than minimize them.
Two 2mm champagne diamonds flank the setting, their deep golden-amber fire contrasting deliberately with the soft scattered glow of the sapphire center. The 4 prongs holding the sapphire are individually hand-formed and surrounded by organic shapes — no two identical in profile.
A named cut. A named deposit. One of one.
