The Last Light Ring
Specs: TruSilver | 1.76g metal | Winza Sapphire 0.8ct Emerald Cut from Haus of Stones| Treatment: None (unheated) | Origin: Winza, Tanzania | Sizing: US 6.5.
Description: The Winza deposit no longer produces commercially.
Winza sapphires come from a single remote valley in the Kilosa District of Tanzania, discovered only in 2007 and producing for a limited window before the deposit became largely exhausted. Winza stones derive their color partly from chromium — the same element responsible for ruby's red — making some Winza stones chemically intermediate between ruby and sapphire.
This 0.8ct emerald cut displays the stone's dichroism as a live optical demonstration: rotate the ring, shift the light source, change your viewing angle — and the stone shifts from vivid raspberry-red to deep royal blue-violet. In Winza material, elevated chromium content shifts one optical axis toward ruby-like red while the other retains the blue-violet character of sapphire — producing an unusually strong dichroic contrast. Under magnification a partially healed fracture and thin-film iridescence at the girdle confirm the stone's unheated, unaltered state.
The birch leaf setting references the New England landscape aesthetic that runs through the Bravais design language. From a place the world will not see again.
